Becoming A Man of Valor

Medal of Honor

This past weekend our church hosted 400 plus men for the first Becoming a Man of Valor Conference. Dr. Bob Reccord was the featured speaker, Buck “Ballistic” Burney was the emcee, and Andy LaValley and band led worship. The conference was developed through Steve Hutton and Momentum.

I have to admit, I have never been or experienced a praise and worship set with just men singing. I was moved to tears as the men sang “How Great is Our God.” They actually overpowered Andy and the band so that they had to stop playing and just let the group sing. It was absolutely incredible! Dr. Reccord did a fantastic job, along with Buck. All of them were incredible to work with.

It is interesting being the person in charge of the conference and so on. I found it difficult to just sit and experience the event because of so many distractions and things going on. Oddly, Bob actually talked about such things and how they impact us spiritually.

Imagine taking the energy of Promise Keepers, that well known mountain top style event, and bringing it into the local church. Then, have an organized plan in place to capture the excitement and energy created by an event that impacts the most ignored and forgotten about segment of our churches’ populations. That is what this conference was all about.

One Response to “Becoming A Man of Valor”

  1. Hey man,

There is not much better than being at a men’s weekend with just men singing their hearts out to God; it is very powerful. The best though for me was the first corporate worship with all the men from the retreat with the ladies joining in. After having heard only the men for a full weekend and then hearing the women join us that last morning for worship I could not take it emotionally either. It gave me a small glimpse of what heaven will be like.

    Thanks for sharing bro.
